Publication Ethics

The Journal of Artificial Intelligence Applications and Data Science (JAIADS) is committed to upholding the highest standards of ethical behavior at all stages of the publication process. Our policies are strictly aligned with the core practices and guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

 

All parties involved in the publishing process-including authors, peer reviewers, editors, and the publisher-are expected to adhere to these ethical standards to ensure the integrity of the scientific record.

 

1. Ethical Principles and Responsibilities

 

Author Responsibilities:

Authors must guarantee that their submitted work is entirely original and free from unethical practices. Specifically, authors must ensure their manuscripts are free from:

  • Plagiarism and self-plagiarism.
  • Data fabrication or falsification.
  • Inappropriate or ghost authorship allocation.
  • Duplicate submission or redundant publication.
  • Undisclosed conflicts of interest.

 

Reviewer Responsibilities:

Peer reviewers play a critical role in maintaining publication standards. They are bound by ethical obligations to treat submitted manuscripts as strictly confidential documents. Reviewers must declare any potential conflicts of interest that could bias their judgment and must not use unpublished information from submitted papers for their own research.

 

Editorial Responsibilities:

In cases of suspected misconduct, JAIADS reserves the fully vested right to initiate formal investigations. This may involve contacting affiliated institutions, funding bodies, or relevant regulatory authorities.

 

2. Peer Review and Manuscript Acceptance

All manuscripts undergo an initial screening by the editorial team to verify alignment with the journal's scope and ethical standards. Submissions then proceed to a rigorous single-blind peer review by independent, qualified experts. The final acceptance decisions rest solely with the Editor-in-Chief, based strictly on the reviewers' assessments of scientific merit, originality, and clarity.

 

3. Authorship and Contributions

Manuscripts must clearly list all contributing authors, complete with their full names, affiliations, and contact information. The order of authorship should reflect mutual agreement based on the level of intellectual contribution, academic rank, or project leadership. All listed authors must have participated meaningfully in the research design, execution, or manuscript drafting, and they share equal public responsibility for the content's validity and accuracy.

 

4. Complaints and Appeals Process

  • Editorial Appeals: Appeals regarding editorial decisions (such as manuscript rejections) should be submitted directly to the Editor-in-Chief. Appeals are evaluated strictly on their scientific merit and may involve an independent secondary review. The final decision is binding.
  • Operational Complaints: Complaints regarding journal operations (e.g., review delays) will be investigated by the editorial team to improve internal workflows.
  • Ethical Concerns: Allegations of misconduct against authors, reviewers, or editors will be handled according to JAIADS's ethical guidelines and may involve consultation with external COPE guidelines.

5. Conflict of Interest

JAIADS rigorously follows COPE's guidelines on conflicts of interest. Authors must explicitly disclose any financial, personal, or professional relationships that may influence or be perceived to influence their work. This includes research funding, stock ownership, consultancies, or advisory roles.

  • Disclosing a conflict ensures transparency and does not automatically disqualify a manuscript from consideration.
  • If no conflict exists, authors must explicitly state: "The authors declare no conflicts of interest relevant to this work."

 

6. Ethical Oversight

Consistent with COPE's definition, JAIADS demands strict ethical oversight regarding research involving human subjects, animal testing, and sensitive data.

  • Informed Consent & Confidentiality: Research involving human data must comply with recognized ethical standards, guaranteeing informed consent and data confidentiality, particularly concerning vulnerable populations.
  • Institutional Approval: Authors must confirm that their study protocols were approved by the relevant Institutional Review Board (IRB) or ethics committee prior to the research. The editorial board will investigate complaints of ethical breaches and act upon recommendations from oversight bodies.

 

7. Data Sharing and Reproducibility

Scientific reproducibility is a foundational tenet of JAIADS. Authors are strongly encouraged to share all relevant raw and processed research data, as well as the custom methods, algorithms, tools, and software code used in their study.

  • A formal Data Availability Statement, including direct links to publicly accessible repositories (e.g., GitHub, Zenodo, Figshare), must be included in the manuscript.

 

8. Funding Disclosure

Authors must fully disclose all sources of financial and material support in the manuscript's Acknowledgment section. Authors are responsible for accurately naming the funding bodies. We recommend referencing the Open Funder Registry for correct and standardized funder identification.

 

9. Open Access and Copyright Policy

All JAIADS publications are strictly Open Access. Articles are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC-BY-NC-4.0).

  • Authors retain the copyright of their work while granting JAIADS the right to publish, host, and distribute it.
  • Third parties may reuse the content provided proper citation is maintained and the integrity of the original work is preserved.

 

10. Post-Publication Discussions and Corrections

JAIADS maintains the right to review and address ethical concerns raised after an article has been published. Depending on the findings of a formal investigation, the journal may:

  • Issue a formal Correction (Erratum/Corrigendum).
  • Publish an Expression of Concern.
  • Retract the manuscript entirely.
  • Contact the authors' affiliated institutions or funding agencies.

 

Retractions will be clearly labeled, and detailed explanations will be provided on the article page. JAIADS also honors requests for author name changes under valid personal circumstances (e.g., gender transition, religious conversion) with utmost discretion.

 

Note: Any disputes regarding authorship arising during or after peer review must be resolved by the involved parties or their institutions. The journal will not mediate legal authorship disputes but may withdraw the manuscript pending resolution.

 

11. Exceptional Article Removal

In exceedingly rare cases, JAIADS may be forced to permanently or temporarily remove an article from its online platform. Justifications for this severe action are limited to legal violations (such as copyright infringement), defamatory content, or content that poses a severe, immediate risk to public health or safety. In such events, the bibliographic metadata will remain permanently available alongside a formal statement explaining the removal.

 

12. Archiving and Repository Policy

JAIADS is committed to ensuring the widest possible dissemination and permanent, long-term accessibility of published research.

  • Author Self-Archiving Rights: Authors are explicitly permitted to deposit all versions of their manuscripts (preprint, accepted manuscript, and published Version of Record) in institutional, disciplinary, or personal repositories (including academic networks like ResearchGate or Academia.edu).
  • No Embargo: JAIADS does not impose any embargo period. Deposits may be made publicly available immediately upon publication.
  • Digital Preservation: JAIADS maintains secure backups of all content and is actively integrating with recognized digital preservation services (such as PKP PN, LOCKSS, or CLOCKSS) to guarantee perpetual archiving.
